Milan

Dida: 7 - Did well to stop and hold Gerrard's first half shot, but was fortunate that nobody was at hand to covert his save from a Pennant shot in the first half. Overall solid.
Massimo Oddo: 7 - Solid defensive performance and got forward regularly.
Marek Jankulovski: 5 - Struggled with Pennant in the first half and was lucky that it didn't prove costly. Did well after being booked after the break, but nonetheless a weak link.
Alessandro Nesta: 8 - Defensive masterclass from the experience centre-back, who fought on after picking up a knock.
Paolo Maldini: 7 - One of the best players in the history of the game can now go out on a high. He wasn't faultless by any means, but still important.
Andrea Pirlo: 6 - Quiet over the 90 minutes, but took the free kick that led to Inzaghi's vital opening goal.
Gennaro Gattuso: 6 - Identified as one of the key players before the match, but was surprisingly off colour. Seemed to be frustrated and was rash when on a booking, while struggled with passing.
Massimo Ambrosini: 6 - Another midfielder that made little impact on the game despite plenty of running.
Clarence Seedorf: 7 - Performed his role of breaking up Liverpool's attacking play well, but had no creative influence and was sloppy with the ball.
Kaka: 7 - Occasionally impressive on the ball, although Liverpool did well keeping him underwraps until he set up Inzaghi with the clinching second goal.
Filippo Inzaghi: 7 - Typical Inzaghi performance in that he did nothing all much, but still scored two goals. It is the job of the striker to score, so there can be no complaints.

Liverpool
Jose Reina: 6 - Had no chance with the goals and didn't have that much else to do.
Steve Finnan: 6 - Did well on the right-flank, which is where Liverpool were most threatening.
John Arne Riise: 6 - Solid at the back and often featured further up the field, but his left-boot was unable to save Liverpool on this occassion.
Daniel Agger: 6 - A very good performance other than a ten minute spell in the second half when he and his defensive partner seemed to lose their nerve and was fortunate to get away with it.
Jamie Carragher: 7 - Similar to above, but with added commitment.
Javier Mascherano: 8 - Excellent display in the first half and the main reason that Milan's midfielders struggled to get involved in the game. Sacrificed in the second half as Liverpool went on the attack.
Xabi Alonso: 6 - Fairly average display from the Spaniard. Mixed range of passing and had one low shot that flashed wide in the first half.
Jermaine Pennant: 7 - Saw more of the ball than anyone else on the pitch and deserves a lot of praise, even though he didn't always come up with the final ball.
Boudewijn Zenden: 5 - weak link in the side and made no impact on the match before being replaced.
Steven Gerrard: 7 - Was always going to be the man most likely to unlock Milan, but his one clear opportunity ended in a weak shot that Dida saved well.
Dirk Kuyt: 7 - was given a very hard task of playing upfront on his own. Did well in the few times he saw the ball and had one effort blocked with the scores level. Nodded home a late consolation goal.
